Thanks Wheely, Geoff and Justin for a great day out; makes a change to do some Devon lanes, I'm sure Geoff's battery's went flat when I took a tumble on the steps, I have some footage but the old mud has played it's part again, must clean the lens religiously I'll post what I have when it's done. See you again sometime, if you want to do a few lanes round here sometime let us know. Terry
I would also like to thank Wheely, Geoff and Terry for a great day, especially Geoff and Terry who spent most of the day crawling along at my pace; It was my first time on the lanes and I loved every bit of it, I have never done anything like this before and it was completely different to what I had expected, Wheely did a fantastic job on choosing which lanes to ride, there was only one lane I really didn't fancy having a crack at, fortunately for me Geoff stepped in and helped me out (Top man). It was a good experience, I'm aching all over and can't wait to get out there again.
Ride started off slightly chilly (Telboy had rode up from Looe and was pretty cold to start) but with the sun starting to give off warmth, things soon got quite pleasant. We welcomed both Telboy (been riding with Cornwall TRF for a year or so) and complete novice Gripper (Justin) riding green KLX250 and sporting brand new MT21s all round. Adapted my ride to suit the riders and did a quite local ride towards Totnes and then the Rattery, Dean and South Brent. Justin soon got into the swing of things and despite the going being a little more leisurely than normal, he did very well for his first outing. He met a few squirrels along the way and badgered on the step of 202-147. His bike also stalled in the deepish gloopy water of -179 where he had the nice job of dismounting and pushing it out (just like Geoff used to do in this lake ). Geoff also had a big moment in this water, but luckily his size/strength prevented him and his bike sinking into a perilous doom. Telboy had a great ride although a nice double badger when Geoff led him up the Devil's Steps (I had taken Gripper on the ride-around). Telboy conquered the difficult bit then 25metres from the top he fell off to the right of the bike. He remounted and promptly lost his footing and fell off the left side . Didnt have my camera out, but knowing Geoff Beadle he'll have it all recorded. Ended the day 2 lanes early when I picked up a flat - managed to make a mad dash home from South Brent (including 2 stops for air) - was totally flat by the time I arrived. Anyhoo, another fun day - can't wait for next one.
