Venues for Trials riding in Devon, or even better near Plymouth.

Does anyone know of anywhere that allows people to take a non road legal trials bike to play / practice on? Woods / Quarries / Friendly farmers?

I know about Muddy Wheels in North Devon which is great but it's about an hour and a half from me in Plymouth.

Hi Ben

Look for posts in the events section for Cadover motocross track and also the 'Geralds Farm' section of this forum.

I believe there is also a motocross track at Ernesettle in Plymouth by the old Toshiba factory.

All of these will be limited to 14 days per annum and are usually open every other week from April through to October.

Regards

Chris

Sorry Ben missed the most important part about the trials bike.
Geralds farm would be the best bet. Other than that enter a few trials events as a novice.

Regards

Chris

Hi Ben,

Good on you. I always wanted to have a trials bike and nearly had one, but the thought of having to maintain two bikes put me off.

Matt (Matt xr 250) Cornwall TRF and TVTR member does trials on a Sunday, so perhaps you could get some advice from him.

I would hope that although some laughs may be audible, that the spectators would actually be encouraging, anyway good luck!

Geralds place is quite free range so you can find your own obstacles in the woods if required. Seen a few trials bikes down there in the past.

Chris

PS what did you buy?

Hi Ben, i started trials afew months ago, started in the novice & started with Gas Gas txt pro 250 2006 model good starter bike, but just sold it, & bought Sherco 290cc 2009 model, there our trials most sundays in devon & cornwall, but some trials you need a ACU Trials license which is £10 for the year, next trial is 5th sept with Launceston MCC which the trial is in Launceston, just look up there web site www.launcestonmmc.co.uk, & as for a practice ive been afew times near Hartland which is brillant for trials, i live near launceston, if you would like to meet up for a practice give me aring 07964631916, cheers Matt

That sounds very promising if there are Trials bikes there as well. The bike will be kept over with a friend (Brixham) who talked me into it to start with as I have nowhere to keep it in Plym, but will change that over the next month or two and get it (& the KTM) closer to home.

I am lined up to do the West of England Easy / Beginners Trial on Saturday over in Newton Abbott to get me started and I'm sure they'll go easy on me first time out, not a titter .... (I haf a wewwy good fwend in wome called bigguth dickuth wink.gif

I got a Beta Rev 3, which we think is a 2000 model but seems clean, tidy and ready to go. You are more than welcome to a go if you fancy it. They are really good fun to ride, but a very different style of riding again.

Thanks Tom.
That is probably very close to my Brothers house and I know he'll be wanting a play on it at some stage, so I'll give you a shout if I'm bringing the bike(s) down that way.
