I took my bike to DMS so Dan could MOT Test it today. It passed but with an advisory on the rear shock link being slightly worn and the front wheel bearings heading off to the scrapyard any day soon.
When I got home I stripped the linkage out, the quick way...swinging arm, battery box, air filter housing and rear wheel removed and stripped the linkage.
This is the bearing that's chuffed...
It measures 26mm in diameter and is a maximum 14mm thick. Yamaha want £57.00 + VAT + Carriage. Needless to say I bought the 'AllBalls' kit for £14 that includes all the bits not just the bearing!
Tim, this is why I can't come with you tomorrow!

Are you sure its not a case of you get what you pay for? I cant remember where or when, but I seem to think I heard not good things about All Balls. As in , they cost less cos they're made of chocolate? This is most definatley the case with KTM wheel bearings. Tried the cheaper aftermarket ones, they seem like a false economy cos they just dont last like the originals.
Shame you cant make it tomorrow - we might even get some snow, so we're heading for the moors.
That be a 'rose' bearing. All balls cover most bearing kits for most bikes,so its an easy choice.I fitted a swinging arm bearing kit to my KLX 250.There was a small amount of play right from the start,6 months later they were rusty as hell, really poor quality.Original Kawasaki bearings although twice as expensive would last in excess of 5 years if regularly greased.Tim is right ,it isn't possible to manufacture good bearings cheaply, you get what you pay for. That shock bearing is probably the original and its lasted 15 years. Its the same with front sprockets, wheel bearings etc
