I do know where I'm going, but the track it will decide, It's not the destination, It's the glory of the ride!
Well I'd already made previous arrangements to take a small group to Bovey to meet another small group and get a tour of Widecombe on the Moor - whre I've heard tell of some rather lovely lanes !!
So another time perhaps as I havent dont Cornwall for...........ages
1 simple question...Are you a member of the TRF? If you are then please scan your card and send me a copy (aels'at'joatmoa.com) and you are welcome to join us.
The rules of the group are that non-TRF members may ride once with us. Then we expect them to join the TRF.

i see your point, but there are several forums around my area south wales none of them would ever think of a making people join the TRF before they could ride with them on a regular basics. same as i have been talking with a member on this forum about coming up here for a few rides. regardless of if he was or wasn't a trf member.
I think people will join the TRF because they want not because they have to.
Think about it as a kind of insurance... in the most flexible of ways..... TVTR members ONLY ride LEGAL RoWs....... All TVTR members belong to the TRF and hence follow the TRF code of conduct. The TRF will back you through the courts if anyone attempts to bring an action against you for riding your motorcycle on a LEGAL RoW..... providing of course you are Taxed / insured/ Mot'd etc etc, as for any other highway. I can not see any reason to justify not belonging to the TRF if you are serious about greenlaneing.
There are groups of "off road bikers" apparently who do not adhere to the TRF code of conduct and ride illegal bikes any where the fancy takes them, POO POOING THE TRF! I think there is one in deepest and darkest Cornwall and another recently formed in the Dorset / South Devon area....breaking all sorts of laws probably including the Badger Act!!
##### it is of course entirely up to the individual if you want to ride with like minded TRF members or not.
There seems to be an ongoing debate as to if the TRF is a pressure group for riders to bring about a sensible and legal outcome on Rigts of Way issues, or is a "Riders Club"..
My personal view is it is both, and there can be no reason why localised riders groups should not form under the umbrella of the TRF in any region.
The Tamar Valley Trail Rides is just that... a localised riders group that all belong to the TRF, it be Cornwall or Devon groups.
I used to belong to a motorcycle club in my yoof that catered for all the ACU competition events, but I also belonged to the TRF.
I hope this explains why TVTR members are all TRF members
yes it does so what your saying is that TVTR is a side site of the TRF
i didn't say if i was or wasn't a member a of the TRF lot of guys i ride with are and there are also guys that are not. but we all ride with coman sense and are all road legal.
what i was getting at through was you would only ride with other TRF members. but if you had the chance to ride in other areas with non TRF members would you take up the offer?
I can only speak for myself on this subject - this is not necessarily the opinion of the TVTR or the TRF.
As I see it , no one has the right to tell me who I can or cant ride with - thankfully the powers that be realise this and dont make any effort to enforce such a thing. I joined the TRF after one ride with Andy, as requested by him, perfectly reasonably. It is not compulsory, the decision was mine. We ride legal routes that are open to every one, you dont need to be a TRF member to obtain permission - these are public roads, open to all.
I make no secret of the fact that I have ridden, and will do again , with some old friends who are not, and probably never will be, TRF members. And yes, I have taken them out on routes in Devon that they probably wouldnt have been able to find were it not for the overlays provided to me as amember of the TRF. All TVTR , and TRF members are at liberty to arrange rides with who ever they want.
However, organised runs posted on this site must stick to the simple rule - if you like your first time out, join the TRF before you get another.
The TRF may not be perfect but its all we've got. If it wasnt for them I'm sure by now we would have very few legal routes left - they deserve our support, and our 40 quid, just for that. There are various bike shops in Devon giving 10% discount on everything for TRF members - I more than get my 40 quid back in discount on oil, filters and brake pads etc.

and I have and on occasions do ride with trail riders who do not belong to the TRF... although I usually convince them that for all the reasons that Timus gives and many others £40 to the TRF is money well spent!!! TVTR is a group of trail riders who all also so happen to belong to the TRF...NUFF SAID!!!!
Thanks to Withbrook and Timus for extolling the virtues of the TRF.
This was a condition we stood by when we started the TVTR off in Aug 2008. It costs a lot of money and time to keep the lane database up to date and I think the TRF fee is the worth the money.
I agree with Timus. You don't have to be a TRF member to go for a ride with me if I'm out on a private ride. However, if it's an advertised ride then the T&C's apply.
As to would I ride with non-TRF members in another area....Not sure. I would want to know why they weren't TRf and I would need convincing that they were only going to ride where they knew it was legal.
We allow people to ride 'illegal' bikes...what size is your number plate and where's your reflector? But that can cause us problems when we get stopped. See the September '09 Police log report on the Ride Reports page of the TVTR website.

I may be wrong but as far as I know Maggotman has not yet been on a TVTR ride.
He came out on a ride last week with me, not advertised here nor ran through TVTR.
So therefore if this stands true he hasnt had his TVTR "one for free" ride yet.
Not saying I disagree with stuff written above, but this is a tvtr-only rule for this county (as far as I am aware). If I'm doing a dtrf ride I encourage any new riders to join and explain the benefits. Then its up to them, but they can still join me for more as long as they comply with rideout rules and codes of conduct.
Andy Sorry to say this but her who is to be obeyed has reminded me we are out for lunch on saturday, 12.30 at gulworthy Posh Nosh. Due to this demand I will not be able to play on Saturday? Hope you all have a great day out.
