SAT 26TH RIDEOUT


myself, chris, pete,mike, terry, met up this morning for a rideout starting at pearces garage in gunnislake @ 8.30am ,weather was excellent, chris m was run leader and i was t.e.c,  proceded on to the local lanes at calstock & harrowbarrow,and up to lucket , chillerton etc, everyone made up angels except me which wasnt an off just lost a bit of momentum and couldnt get going again (my excuss and im sticking to it), chris thinking i hadnt suffered enough decided we where going back down angels, to which i landed back on my butt again near the bottom, chris adjusted my handlebars which resembled the handlebars on a sportsbike and proceded for  petrol at sourton cross and a breather where i noticed i was missing my numberplate?, headed off again to reride the lanes near sourton , before heading back towards tavy, burrator and finishing at gren---n, i decided id been battered enough for one day and as chris was going up and down,  i waited a the bottom, everyone cleaned ok i think ,finished the run there and went our separate ways, me and pete headed back into cornwall and did one last lane nr gulworthy, excellent route from chris and a lot of fun, well done chris for leading and the other guys for your good company, kev

It was a cracking day and we got though a lot of lanes in a short time.

The most amazing thing was bumping into Terry on the way. Normally I would have not gone that route and we would not have passed Terry at all....must be fate.

I think the owners at the farm at W*****ly 201-014 must have really pi**ed of the council judging by what they have done to the lane. The eastern end now has a lovely 5 bar gate which is easily opened signposted by a big 'Byway' sign and look what they have done to it. A few weeks ago it was a lovely boggy mess, now it is a motorway see photos.

Sorry I missed it chaps. Never mind, there's always another day. You're right about the lane Chris, hopefully it will return to its former state in due course. The other lane they've worked on nearby is also a disappointment (201-024) now  they've drained the dip.

What lane number is the bridge photo? I don't recognise it.

A thoroughly enjoyable morning very well led by Chris.

The first venture out on the lanes for the newly converted 525SX which has been tested only on roads with SM wheels and tyres up until this point.
Having set off from Plymouth without issue, the run up to Derriford was straightforward. Soon after, I thought I'd hit a false neutral as the bike jumped out of 4th (Top) gear.
In short, a small mechanical ensued throughout the remainder of the day with the gearbox only permitting 3 gears - apparently a return spring is the offending item.

This made my arrival planned for 08:30 at Pearces delayed and I ran on to a further junction in the hope of catching folk up. I had given up on the day and tried calling lads to ask for numbers etc when the boys trundled along.
An amazing and very pleasant stroke of luck.

We completed the day together and had a great time. Sometimes testing and at others just relaxed and bimbling in our lovely countryside.

For the 525 it was a good tester and the engine delivered wonderfully. I shall replace the competition springs in the forks in favour of EXC (Softer) springs and have relieved some pre load from the rear. I shall also be raising the bars a little further as the attitude for me was just a little too stooped over. Other than that I am very pleased with the conversion and the alternative in power delivery that the SX engine provides.
Tyre pressures run were 0.8 Bar in both front and rear, but I shall increase the front up to 0.9Bar in future until the new springs arrive for the forks.
