Re routing carb pipes


Hi All.

Ive been a naughty boy and just treated myself to a new toy for the Autumn, its a Beta 450rr (54 plate).biggrinbiggrin

It has the KTM engine  and flat slide carb.

There are 4 or 5 flexible  plastic overflow pipes that drop from the carb and drain out below the back of the engine. I undestand that they don't like water too much and should be re routed. Is this right? Where do I route them to?

Also does anyone know where I can get a nice angled feeler gauge (0.12m) that will reach under the tappets (there is not a lot of room to play with).

Any other advice on this KTM engine very greatfully accepted.

Hi Mike,
You will probably find 4 of these pipes are breather tubes and come from "T" pieces attached to the Carb, the other is the float bowl drain tube.
Take the upper 2 at the Carb and feed them over the Air Box and secure them high up along the subframe rail facing backwards, this should stop the engine cutting out when the water level covers the breather tubes which hang down. Remember though it will now keep running until it FLOODS ashamed

Hi Neil,

I had a little think about the carb  vent pipes. I decided to add a y connector into the two pipes which come from the top of the carb. I have positioned them just under the carb.

The vent pipes now follow their original route to the bottom of the bike and also have a vent into the airbox. Hopefully this means that the bike wont flood as you described and will also still breath if the bottom of the pipes are immersed.

I think I have put the y piece high enough up above any potential water line-(as the pipes are vented at the top the bottom of the pipes will fill to the water line)

I just hope it works now!!
