Just a quick posting about the cruise control I've put on my van..
The Transit has a cable operated throttle with an electronic speedo so I could get away with a cheap and cheerful cruise control and I bought a Waeco Magic Speed 300 from here.
Waeco manufacture several different models of varying complexity so it's worth visiting their global site to see which one is suitable for your vehicle. Their UK site doesn't mention much about Cruise Control?
The kit I used was complete with everything I needed for a reasonably easy fitment. I completed the job in approximately 4 hours making slight changes to the fitting as I prefer to splice and solder my electrical joints.
The reason for fitting cruise control to my shonky van was simple...in late May I'm towing a caravan to Anglesey for a weekend of watching my kids racing a Gixxer and a Fireblade for several hours. The speed limit for vans, that are not 'car derived' and under 2 tonnes gross weight, is 50mph on single carriageways, 60mph on dual carriageways (the A38, Devon Expressway - you know the one where we all get overtaken by white-van-man doing 90+) and 70mph on motorways. However, when towing a caravan the motorway speed limit drops to 60mph plus you're not allowed in the outer lane of the motorway! To enable me to get to Anglesey without having a couple of overnight stops (exaggeration), cruise control allows me to maintain the maximum speed in the most economical manner.
Some people maintain that cruise control uses more fuel...in my experience it uses far less as it maintains momentum much more accurately than a human. I recently got 99.4mpg out of my Megane Estate on a trip to Derby which was done on cruise control.
