Welsh Trip...17th - 20th April '09

Liz Millett is away until the 31st March (swanning around Libya I understand) so there'll be a meeting at the Rock on the 2nd April to discuss the outing.

In the last Newsletter I asked for all those interested in the ride to e-mail me to register their interest....so far only Bosun has responded.

Do we still want to go ahead with the ride?

Andy, obviously missed last meeting, but now have resolved cold start problem - not electrical after all, valve clearances were all over the place. Fan now fitted - just waiting for boss to be welded in rad end cap to take thermo switch and we will be fully sorted. Would appreciate it if you could e-mail me trip details as I would be interseted.

Due to unexpected family commitments I shall be unable to go to Wales. Could I please have a volunteer to take over the running of this outing?

Ahoy thar me scurvy lads!

As some of you may know, I'll be back on terra firma this Friday coming.
I'd like to know who needs transport to this 'Welsh Wales look you' foray?

I have space for 3 plus myself with plenty of room for luggage and spares.

Just need a trailer to hook onto the back which will take our bikes, 4 in total.
Any ideas? Or is someone going with transport that will take bikes inside?

Can those requiring the lift please make contact so that I can make plans.
My departure point will be from Plymouth, close to the Station, time to be decided mutually.
I can easily pick up folk on route as necessary.

Also, are we staying in the bunkhouse mentioned by Fixer, or is it a camping trip too?

8 bells all and the rum ration callin'

Harrrgh!

Bosun

Hi Tim, all credit on picking up the baton on this trip. I'll look after Jeff's trailer this weekend, I promise. What are the arrangements so far? Just asking 'cos the Bosun is home this weekend and he's bound to ask me. Bob

I think Terry is all up to speed already - been in regular email contact.

Arangements are from the minimalist school of baton carrying. Terry Fred and Bonny will drive up in Terry's car with Jeffs trailer. Myself, Mike and Simon will go in Simon's mate's Sprinter. Liz is meeting us there. Driving to Machynlleth friday afternoon, got a room for all of us in the bunk house thingy - with pub attached, thankfully.
2 days spectacular riding - Liz has good local knowledge, plus maps marked by local TRF bod.
Returning sunday night.

Hoping it doesnt piss down both days!!!

All sorted quietly behind the scenes then, good man. Lets all hope that any rain finishes on Thursday 'cos you do want some water lying about, don't you? Have you seen the pic of Barney going through the wet in Wales last week? It's a bit deep. What does Liz ride? So far it seems that 'other makes' are well outnumbered by the Jaffa boys. Bob

Wales and wet go hand in hand, i think. Wouldnt really expect anything else. Dont mind too much about the stuff underfoot, as long as its not coming at us from above too much. Dragging on wet kit for day 2 is not something i'm looking forward to. Although the bunk house has a drying room, I dont think one night in the warm is going to make much difference to soaking boots and jacket.

Liz is also Jaffered - she rides a 250 EXC with a 350 kit in it, same as mine. And that doesnt mean you can call it a girls bike!!!!

biggrin To all going to Wales this coming w/e.  On Saturday, we are going to do something a little special and unique to this area.  I am sure you will all enjoy it, however, it comes with a cost of £2 each. I will be collecting the money at the start of the day. this will save everyone having to dig deep at the turnstile!!!

I see the bunkhouse has a kitchen. Is anyone organising bacon sarnies for breakfast?

So, we've got the bacon sarnies sorted, got something special and unique in store for saturday - still no idea what that is - and the weather I ordered will be delivered as promised.

Looking forward to a spectacular weekend.

Organisation - brilliant. ( but then I would say that)
Trip to wales and back - bloody awful, but a means to an end so endured through gritted teeth
Terrys driving - no idea, but Simon did ok
Bunkhouse - OK, I have to agree.
Riding location - stunning scenery, perfect weather.
Uniformity of machinery - poor - there was a green and purple thing in amongst the orange - clashed terribly.
Standard of riding - good.
Air conditions - yes.
Group leader - faultless. Apart from losing most of the group in a bog.
Standard of trails - excellent.
2 days - definately not enough.

Worth it ? Most definately. I'd do it all again tomorrow.

Glad you liked it. biggrin

Next trip up could be a bog running event!  wink

I now have the details of the restricted byways still very actively in use. These will liven up day 2!

If anyone is interested in a mid week trip, I am sure something could be arranged.

There will of course be a catapult award to the bike which can throw it's rider the furthest.
