WANTED - Land

To keep the TVTR guys and gals in the loop Newnham Park have refused us access to use their land again!

they've said that they watched us during the day and the 1) instruction seemed formless with people riding all over the place and 2) we were too noisy!

Our defence - not that it helps as the case is shut - is that
1)once the instruction had been given then everybody went off to try it by themselves on a clear bit of ground and
2) how could they hear us over the noise the guns were making? now I wish that I'd let Terry use his 530 with it's nearly straight through pipe!biggrin

So, we need a friendly farmer/land owner with a plot of scrub land encompassing some "trials" like terrain so we can hold another novice day.

If you know of anybody then please let me know?

Regarding Newnham...it would have been polite if they'd responded to my e-mail I sent them on the 12th March....Oh well, I gather that manners seem to be excluded when you've got land/money etc!

this is the e-mail I sent them - please note the links will not work!

F.A.O. Mr David Cobbold

Good morning,

I'm writing to say a big thank you on behalf of all 10 of the motorcycle riders who took part in out Trials Practice that you so kindly let us use you ground for last Saturday. Great fun - and learning - were had by all with only minor damage to one of your gorse bushes by somebody (Terry) falling off into the bush. Fortunately he was wearing all his bike gear so it wasn't too painful an exercise for him.

I would be pleased to know if you thought our conduct was as promised by us as the venue was praised by all who took part and we would like to repeat the exercise several times per year if it would be agreeable to you?

To read a report on our great day please visit www.trfdevon.org.uk and click on 'Ride Reports > 2008' and then navigate to 'Trials Practice - 8th March'
There are also some great photos on the 'New Forum' also under Trials Practice under the 'Ride Outs Diary - West' heading.

The only question that we were asked was 'Is there more wooded area that we could practice our skills in? The small 4x4 Trials area is quite compact for 10 bikes and it would have been nice to have 'spread our wings' to get out of each other's way.

Many, many thanks for the opportunity you gave to us

Andy

There's always Geralds farm, it's technical/steep but i think it's the best track out there to practice on, you have to allow the more experienced riders to pass as they absolutely fly around but besides that it's ideal to hone ones riding skills biggrin

Andy, if you haven't been you must go when it's open next year, your love it!

I'm not particularly sad we lost Newnham, it's only a field and doesn't really offer much in the way for learning to trail ride, unless your a complete novice which i believe none of us are really.

Geralds is great, its excellent practise. Bit daunting for the novice though, but there is the smaller mx track to find your feet on.

I know the funday didnt go to planned for the ktrc/trf but has anyone considered colwith woods?

What about approaching the forestry commision?

I know fast Jon (Jon Isaac) knows a friendly farmer. He let me have a go round his land once, had some good trialy bits in it, though a bit limited in size.

I will ask him next time if could possibly arrange something.

Chris

Just to keep you all in the know...

A parcel of land complete with trees (aplenty) has been offered and I'm going to inspect it next Tuesday (25th).
Gerald's Farm can only hold 14 events per year and it's not suitable for novices. I did ride there last year and enjoyed it until my voltage regulator packed up.
There's a guy near Pillaton who has been contacted by Erg and seems interested. He has an off-road training school so it might be pricey at which point it becomes a no-no!
There's a quarry at Trematon that is also used by 4x4 clubs and I'm endeavouring to get a lead into it.
Knightrider said he knew of someone and I'm hoping he's trying this option as well.
At the moment the parcel of land complete with trees (loads) is favourite and it is in the Tamar Valley so it could be almost perfect.
I'll be reporting back to you next week with all the info. As for now, I'm off to Derby on the RC8. Have a great day as I certainly will be!
