Increasing TVTR funds

TVTR now own a Garmin Quest and the necessary fittings to mount it on a bike's handlebars. It will be lent out to TVTR members only for a nominal sum until we have recovered the cost.

With the idea of using a 'loan' Garmin Quest for 'would be' run leaders, it has been mooted that on every run we do with it, we charge £1 per head for the rent of the equipment. This would then allow us to upgrade the mapping, buy new kit and so on???

New kit list...
1)Mapsource 10 (latest mapping for Quest due out soon)
2)A RAM Qpac for the Quest - allowing it to be charged whilst on the bike. At the moment the batteries will last 12 hours if it is in constant use running a route.
3)Anything else anybody thinks of.

Can I throw this one open to the forum and see what you all think?

Please note the fee would be for the rental of the equipment not a fee for leading the run.

I think given the average age of our members we should invest in a portable Defib Machine!!weirdfacebiggrinbiggrin

Sorry Fixer, I didn't answer the question. I think it a good idea for all riders to chip in a quid to go towards group funds. It's nothing, blimey the last time I played rugby the match fee was a quid and that was in '79.

OK, back on topic please....

What does the forum think about a £1 per rider per ride levy for equipment?

Personally I prefer the original method of using maps but I am certainly not against using the technology or following a run leader using the technology as I have followed Fixer many times using his GPS.

As you well know I have great difficulty reaching escape velocity from West Devon, and if I ever did so, might be grateful of the technology not being on such familiar soil.

My concern is more over
1. Collecting monies, do we have a treasurer for this purpose, who is going to keep accounts of such things.
2. Where is the item going to be kept and who will be responsible.
3. John borrowed it and he has gone on holiday for 6 months.

Just my 2 pennies.

Three very fair questions Chris, and they will need to be answered to everyone's satisfaction...if the idea goes ahead. However, at the moment it's still very much a moot point 'cos there's not much response about it on the forum. If the debate gathers momentum then I suggest it should be on the agenda for a future meeting, where everyone can have their two pennies worth.

To answer some of the questions......
I've been keeping the fund accounts and I've kept two other TVTR guys informed.
The money would have to find it's way back to me as would the Garmin for route setting for those that do not feel up to it.
If somebody is going on hols the it is up to them to get it back before they go.

Yes, I'm one of the aforementioned guys.

Now...Fixer is the man to teach us the Garmin. Fixer generally leads a ride out. Fixer runs the website and moderates this forum. Any volunteers for sharing some of the workload and entering a few figures into a book..i.e. keeping account of things financial?

Maybe at the next meeting we can discuss this sort of thing, via an agenda if we wish to formalise it, before we get to the 'social' bit? If this is the general forum consensus then we should forward items we wish to be included on the agenda to our 'spokesperson'.

Let's have some response on this one please fella's (and Bonny), because I think we need to know where we are going with this group. Bob

I agree, if it weren't for Fixer then we would not have this opportunity of the TVTR group and website, his enthusiasm for all things bikes and organising rivals my kids in a sweet shop. So a big thanks to Fixer for all he has done and is doing.

If we are going to collect monies then I think we need to elect (or volunteer)some people to help Fixer for obvious reasons. This should most definitely be discussed at the next meeting.

Hi Folks

I've managed to make a simple (to me at least) Balance Sheet for the TVTR funds and it's on the Members Area as a pdf file.

To those of you that don't like balance sheets...

Funds collected £85
Funds owed £25
Expenses £129.81
Deficit £19.81 (actually £44.81 due to funds to be collected)

This deficit is being funded by me at the moment....anybody want the job?

As the paper deficit is only £19.81 or the equivalent of 4 new TVTR members it is entirely feasible to let the £5 voluntary donations pay the deficit.

This would allow the Garmin to be lent to TVTR Members F.O.C.

Your thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

Please note....

We have a new member signed up this morning so the paper deficit is only £14.81.
I'm off to change the balance sheet now!furious
