4 eager gents Myself, justin, shaun and billie and a husaberg 2x ktm's and a honda crf all set off this morning at 10am after a late start I cut out a few lanes to sart with to try and make up time, We nipped over the border into cornwall and hit the very wet slippery slatey rocky lanes which are used in the mcc trials the MT43's were coping very well! Billie decides to show off his wheeley skills by attemting a very wet slatey steep set off steps unfortunateley I diddnt get to see this as it was happening behind me, Shaun said it was very impressive as the bike was vertical just a shame he diddnt quite make it all the way to the top but gracefully laid it down in the side off the hedge.
Cutting back acroos the border into devon and heading up across to hartland we are going well the lanes look so different this time off year and after all the rain we have had they certainly are alot more fun! The lanes are still wet and slatey in this area but they are getting steeper and there is alot off running water now and mud making it more fun!
Billie decides to go laning on his own! I dont know but one off us must have smelled as he is gone! He was with us at the last junction but not at the next? Time to find Billie anyway it turns out he came around the corner saw some tyre tracks on the entrance to a lane and thought we had gone that way, but it was our tyre tracks from earlier as we had come out off this one! Never mind billie found and all is well!
We meet some horse riders and walkers out on the lanes and all were pleasant and chatty! waves and hellos were exchanged and we let horses pass and they returned the favour later on. We stopped at a beach for a 10 min break and all were having a good time
We went to the top end off hartland doing some lanes I hadnt done before and they are great lanes will be visiting them next time! We stop for a play on the way riding along astream and up some steep banks and fun was had by all.
As we get to the very top off Hartland justins bike has a jubille clip let go so a temporary fix with cable ties and a top up from my camel pack and we were off to clovelly filling station to get it fixed. All done and down to clovelly for a well deserved pasty stop!
from here on we headed across to the edge off bideford and torrington having to miss out a few lanes to make up some time!
The terrain has now changed to deep muddy gloop and shaun decides to get a bit too close to me
Its hard going now the MT43's may as well have been slicks but it was so funny It had got so boggy that most uphills we were running with the bikes as there was little or no tracktion.
Time had got in and it was starting to get dark so a run for home taking in a few more lanes on the way finnished the day off niceley!
Everyone was grinning at the end off each lane But billies was the biggest grin just like an old chessire cat! Perhaps he knew something we diddnt!
Thanks guys for coming all this way to ride in my area and I hope you had a good time and hope to see you out there sometime soon.......
Cracking ride report Steve, it was definitely well worth the trip, apologies again for the late start the day was just not going to plan from the offset, but we finally made it and had a top day, as for the jubilee clip failure, I will put it down to the fact it was a genuine KTM part, , I've got a cheap one from a garage now so all should be good, next time I will bring my KTM repair kit which consists of superglue, chewing gum & tissue paper, .
Anyway, Top day, great company, plenty of mud, cracking lanes & a pasty for lunch, what more can you ask for .
If you could keep me posted for the November ride it would be much appreciated and if your ever at a loose end on a Sunday and fancy some lanes down this neck of the woods give me text or call Sat evening, Cheers, Justin.
