Date : 19-Feb-2011 Time : 9:20 - 13:40 Miles : 65.3 Riders : Ben Wheely, Pukey Lukey, KwakaGeoff, Richard and myself Bikes : 3 x WRs and a few other things
A shorter ride organised this weekend due to other commitments, but a new route loaded into the Quest and the boyz were ready to roll soon after 9. Compared to last Sunday's mega-rain ride, the weather was great (light cloud with sunny spells) and the lanes were again mega-wet after the recent rain. With a smaller group the lanes flowed flawlessly and everyone was making excellent progress. Luke, a newer member of our group and only riding a short while is a natural trail rider who can tackle anything thrown at him with relative ease......... that is except for the water crossings!! Last week he dropped his bike in the deep muddy water at the top of Devil Steps (he wasnt caught on camera ) and this week he did exactly the same on 202-212 - but this time in front of my cybershot and with Geoffs video also rolling . No (dry) badgers to report Very disappointed to arrive at 202-236 and find this once-excellent lane is another that has been graded and 90% of fun removed -- we havent been down that way for a while and I was so looking forward to the hill climb. Also a funny moment on -149 where a middle aged woman was jogging towards me whlist wearing her iPod (and she was looking downwards), so didnt hear/see my very slowly approaching bike until the last moment when she jumped out of her skin. She thought it pretty amusing though (but not quite as much as I did) Anyhoo - the whole shorter day was excellent, the weather got so warm at some points that I almost removed the jacket (then again in the shade it wasnt quite as nice). Also nice not to be quite as knackered as normal and have the rest of the afternoon to do other stuff.............. Til the next time
Thanks for a great ride, good to get out again. Good weather too, which is not the norm given the history of 'Wheely's weather reports'!
The GoPro was rolling to full effect so I'll be compiling a vid soon - it's been a while since the last one I know, sorry
Anyways, got a few weekends off riding coming up (Twickers next w/end for Eng V's France 6-Nations and a snowboarding hol, whooooo ) so glad I got out on this one.
Thanks for leading us around Marc, enjoyed the pace and how much we crammed in a short time, think my girlfriend might believe that I went to work, as I'd washed the bike, myself. sorted the gear out and done some chores by the time she got home, but she's more clever than she makes out sometimes!
Don't know about being a natural, still got a lot to learn I reckon and it's fun trying.
Glad I could provide something amusing to photograph and film, I mean we could all make it look easy for the the camera like the rest of you but where's the fun in that! Seriously though, I did feel that Geoff was happy to follow me for most of the day, as I was probably the best bet for creating some footage to satisfy the need people with a perverse sense of humour have for a bit of carnage (I understand this , as I am one of them)! Looking forward to the video!
Nice vid Geoff, Pukey is getting some footage; when he came out with me he was the only one; so got it all then. That looks a nice lane with the rocky bits, but you aint alf got some ruts over there cant say I like ruts, must come over one day and ride again with you lads.
I thought being a relative newby Luke might like to see himself riding which is why I followed him for most of the day (nothing whatsoever to do with the fact he was probably the most likely to give us all some entertainment Sorry Luke )
You're more then welcome to join us anytime. You see when Wheely posts a ride so come-on over to the 'rutty' side (and i'll follow you with my cam )
Catch ya laterz
