KTM 450 exc-r suspension settings

Hi All, just took possession of my new 450 (new to me, yes i've joined the ranks of team tango" and need some advice on suspension settings.
The bike seems a bit hard and high at the moment so i'm considering setting all front and rear compression/rebound to the comfort settings.
The shock is a 72n/mm but is fully compressed at the moment (does this heighten the bike).
i'm 5'9 and 75kg ( this is not a lonely hearts add!) so on the small side for this bike.
Thanks Gary..smile

Setting up the bikes Sag/Race weight is critical, get that right then start playing with the clickers on the suspension starting in the middle setting working down then up. Then there is oil weight in the forks!

Get the suspension right for your weight and your have a bike that is easier to handle and generally better to ride smile.gif I spent weeks trying to get my previous bike dialed in right, when it was spot on it transformed the handling of the bike smile.gif

Hope that helps

Adam

Gary I don't know about the suspention settings but I do hear the 450 likes smooth slippery round pebbles as my 525 did early days!

Hi Gary,
The 72n/mm is the spring rate for a rider (in full kit) weighing 75 to 85kg so should be OK for you. If the ride height adjuster is at the fully compressed setting it will definitely increase the ride height. The initial spring preload is only 9mm to give a static sag of 35mm. The riding sag is then checked and adjusted to give 105mm.
The owners manual is very comprehensive in suspension setting advice.
I had a 450EXC-R prior to my 400EXC. I set it up to the comfort settings in the owners manual as a start and it was fine. I now have the 400 set the same. I am 10-12kgs heavier than you so you may need to reduce the compression damping a click or 2.
The high speed compression damping adjuster on the rear shock is quite critical and needs to be set carefully, somewhere between 2-2.5 turns out seems to work well.
The forks should also be bled regularly to avoid them getting pressurized.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Neil.
