I spotted a poster in JD's yesterday and e-mailed the company to find out more....
Their reply...
Hi Andrew,
The website needs updating - well, in fact, replacing, as we have added many more insurance products since that was designed and published some years ago, and yes you are right, the Enduro scheme isn't on there.
However, please see attached PDF file for further information - the ACU told us they were going to send this to all the clubs, so I'm surprised you don't already know about it, as they have been trying to solve the problem of cover for competitive use for at least 5 years and were over the moon when we cracked the problem - which basically is that the majority of motorcycle cover being used by Enduro riders at present isn't worth the paper it is written on, as the insurers will try to void cover and not deal with a claim if they get an inkling that the bikes are being used in connection with competition. Our scheme policy documents from Equity Red Star include very specific mention of the competitive use, guaranteeing it is covered, and the MSM scheme is unique, but response so far from riders has been slow to say the least, so we would much appreciate your help in publicising it, as it took me two years hard work to get an insurer to agree to covering your real use of the bikes, so I know all too well that underwriters don't want to cover the real use the bikes are being put to.
At the end of the day what the ACU are worried about is that they are going to end up on the wrong end of a Third Party liability claim - probably from a member of the public who got in the way of one of you in a country lane - because an insurer has voided the liability cover under the policy, but the competition use is enough to void your fire and theft cover too.
Have a look at the attached, and if you give me your address I will post some originals out to you as A4 and A3 posters if they will be of any help.
