I e-mailed Cornwall Highways to say how disappointed I was that there new mapping website was considerably slower and didn't show Byways etc.
This is the reply I got...
Thank you for your comments regarding the Cornwall Council website. I am sorry you have had difficulties in using the mapping function.
Your comments regarding the website are very helpful to us in improving the way in which we deliver our services and I can assure you that we take your comments and the difficulties you have experienced very seriously.
Having discussed your issue with the Web Team they have told me that they have recently updated the large scale mapping displayed on the main council mapping website. Due to improvements in the spatial accuracy of the detailed Ordnance Survey base map they are currently unable to display the public rights of way data on this base, although they plan to have it available by the end of the month.
In simple terms, the detailed Ordnance Survey mapping has been shifted and adjusted by the Ordnance Survey. As a result, the public rights of way data no longer fits over it properly when viewed in detail. This could result in it being misinterpreted. The web team need to adjust the public rights of way data in exactly the same way so it will fit correctly, then they will put it back again.
In the meantime the public rights of way data can be viewed on smaller scale mapping on another Cornwall Council mapping website available through the following link - http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=17724 Please look under the heading "Other Mapping Sites" for the "Public Rights of Way and Cycle Routes" link.
In regard to site being considerably slower than previously, this issue has now been fixed and the site should now be running at a better speed.
If I can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.
So that's a bit of good news then!

Can anyone point me in the direction of the minutes of the Cornwall meeting a few months ago when police and forrestry commision people were to be in attendance. Have we had generous offers of expanded forest trail riding?
I mean I have been coming across all manner of mountain bike trails and facilities for their uplifts from West central wales (where Liz took us the other weekend) to Cwncarn behind Newport right down to our own back yard above Morwellam in and around the arsenic workings, yet nothing is done to facilitate our most maligned sport of tearing up footpaths and bridleways of devon and Cornwall!
