Thinking out loud.

Just a thought, but would anyone be interested in doing a coast to coast run sometime in the future? Starting at Mansands, where you can ride right down to the beach, heading to the north coast, to hopefully a lane where you can do the same. Night in Big Jims B and B in Croyd, with compulsory evening in the pub, then meander home on a different route.

Great idea. Yes, I'm up for it and I reckon Jim will be too, so some planning will be required. Didn't the Devon group do a 'similar' thing a few years ago?. Mr Sussex will know and will probably know the route they used. I'll send him an email now, immediately, at this very minute.

If you mean plot a vague route then let everyone follow me, then yes, I'd be delighted. It might be a good idea to put some heads together to sort a decent route out - once I get past Moretonhampstead I might as well be in Patagonia, for all the local knowledge I've got. Wouldnt want to miss out on something spectacular just cos I didnt know it was there.
Having had a quick look at Memory Map with this in mind, theres seems to be only two places on the north coast where you can actually ride to the sea - Woody Bay, just west of Lynton, and Clovelly. Both are a fair way from where we'd want to end up, and theres not much else to ride around there. So provisionally  I'd suggest Lee for the northern end. The ( tarmac) road goes right to the sea, its right by the spectacular cliff top route we did with Jim, and its not too far from Jims B and B.
Possibly a mid week ride would be favourite - depends on whether Jim can accomodate us all on a weekend. I'm thinking sometime end of March / beginning of April.
I might even supply a special prize for anyone daft enough to go for a swim at both ends!!!!

Any other thoughts on the subject from anyone? I'd definately like to do it, and would be happy to sort it out for everyone.

Pasted reply from Brian (TTRfan). The man will have a mine of information for this project I expect, so we may not need to 're-invent the wheel'. I reckon it must be an item for the next meeting .

'Hi Rob

Yep - we used to start at Mansands and ride the S Hams and end up at my old house at Longdown where anyone wanted overnight acc. were welcome - inside or camping on the lawn!

2nd day we would be joined by some riders and a run leader from the Exmoor Group who would lead us to Minehead.
