Training Day 13th December '08 - CANCELLED!

As most of you know we have been let down by Newnham Estate over use of their ground for training. They came up with the feeble excuse that our bikes were too noisy (every single one was road legal) and the training seemed formless - or some such tripe!
I've been to see a fabulous bit of woodland today and negotiated the same deal as we had at Newnham (£10 per person) with total freedom to ride wherever we want to within the confines of the wood. There are no houses or golf courses nearby and most importantly there aren't any shooting facilities either!
Downsides...no toilets, no cafe, a lot of scrub land we may need to clear/clean up
Upsides...21 acres to do as we like and the owner is a keen biker so I envisage being able to get this venue more often.

There is no limit to the numbers of riders but it's £10 per TVTR member and £12 for any non-member - who must be a TRF member, NO exceptions!

The wood is on the Devon side of the Tamar Valley and not far from Cap'n Slow's abode.

There is no amazing incline like we had to play with at Newnham but there are some very interesting 'bomb holes'!

Please reply to this posting if you would like to take part.

Full details of the venue will be forwarded to those wishing to take part as I do not want the wood to be used by anyone other than us!

Hi Fixer, Yes please. Probably be more useful with a chain gang than a chain saw, but it takes all sorts. David

Hi Gang and interested onlookers

I've had a chat with the land owner tonight and he is happy for us to have access to the wood before the 13th. He has also said NO power tools and all work to be done under his supervision. We've also set a maximum number of participants for the event at 25.
We're on probation as he will inspect the ground afterwards to make sure there is no long term damage. This is why I'm insistent on Trials rear tyres and only slow speed work.
Paul Studley - ex works Trials rider - may be able to come, which would benefit all of us with his knowledge.
So, who's up for a working party on Sunday Morning 7th December?
Hand saws, pruning devices (I can't spell secateurs), sickles, gloves and boots required.

I can give a few hours to this  job on the 7th Fixer. It'll be good practice for a lane clearing day the Cornwall group are planning for the 3rd or 4th of January.  See Cornwall TRF site and put your name down.

Sounds like a fun day - I will have to check and see if I can make this. Good effort on the find.

Plus was thinking about joining TVTR, so if I attend this day, but join first, that will equate to a saving of £2 on my membership.

Unfortunately Wheely, we're not a group you can join. You have to have done at least 2 rides with us and then you may be proposed and seconded by existing voting members. Then the group can vote you in.

Does the fact that I have now been on 2 rides with you guys (both led by Bob) and the fact that Jeff nominated me and Bob seconded it count then ??

Well spotted Wheely. This is a problem we have with having different usernames to our proper names. I'll put you on the list to be voted on at the next meeting.

On behalf of everyone who would have supported the training day, I would like to thank Fixer for the huge effort he has put in, trying to get this training day up and running. Sadly its not going to happen, 'legal issues that could leave us all up the creek without a paddle' are to blame.

Well done mate for the huge amount of time and effort you have put into this, it is appreciated. Don't let the official nonsense get you down.

On a lighter note; Brenda tells me you have a family size Christmas pudding, just for yourself! how greedy is that?

Thanks for the support chaps.

Just a quick aside about my 'family sized' christmas pud....it's a 2 person one as our family is normally just the two of us! This means I can have pud 'n custard (tinned) on Xmas Day and also for brekkie on Boxing Day! For those that didn't know...Brenda is going to Scotland (home of the dour and where my son and family live) whilst I dog sit and generally slob out - hence the Boxing Day ride as advertised on this forum - here at home.

Christmas in the deprived (of my wife) household.

Menu
Breakfast
same as usual a quick drink of water to wash down the multi-vitamin pill. It's one of the dog's but he's got a nice glossy coat and a wet nose so it can't be bad.

Lunch - Main course
A plate FULL of Smash mash, sausages (the one's made mainly from bread and sawdust and not Walls like it says on the packet) and peas all covered with a beautiful brown sauce that'll cover the undercooked sausages pinkness. A tip here...HP make great a great sauce but sh1te printers.

Pudding
A family sized (they must be Ken and Barbie) Mrs Peaks Christmas Pud with slightly cold tinned custard.
I'm sorry about all you foodies and chefs out there but I'm quite happy to save electric and eat cakemix straight from the bowl. Same goes for tinned custard.

Tea - finish the, now cold, leathery bit of Christmas pud. I'll put money on that there's no custard left to go on it. Cold Xmas pud is just like a cross between and old, loved workboot and a fantastic fruit cake that didn't look or taste like the recipe said it should.

Supper - any sausages left? I've still got half a packet of Smash left but no milk.....like eating rice krispies dry.

Boxing Day

Out on the CCM looking for warm food, road kill, etc.

Should do my diet the world of good...Brenda's back on the 29th! biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Let me just warn any of you out there that if you reply to this posting with your Christmas menu you may end up with a bald, short, slightly overweight, nutter, standing in a puddle of drool, stuck to your front room/dining room window  on Christmas Day! You have been warned. wink

Oh c'mon Mr Tibbs.....can't you tell that my Christmas repast is a culinary, nay, gastronomic delight delicately prepared by me? There's no place for reconstituted food on my Christmas plate (the sausages are bread after all).

Actually I hadn't thought of a Ginster's Pasty......mmmmm.....trouble is I prefer cheese n onion and the Ginsters ones are bleh

A real big shame that after all the work Fixer has done that bureaucracy has got in the way, my fingers are crossed that a solution can be found.

Dont worry about milk for your Smash fixer , use water , i have also done this with Rice Krispies biggrinbiggrin

So, after yesterday's chat about eating dead things.....
I hope Bonny doesn't read this posting otherwise she'll be worrying that that turkey may not have had such a good life after all.

Does Bonny sit at home and commune with dead food using a ouija board? How else would you know if it had had a good life? Does this apply to vegetables? What about road kill - it may have ahd a good life but did it want to die just then?

Oh dear, I probably need to go and have a good lie down. confuseconfuseconfuse
